10 Vantastic Things to do in Vancouver…Part 2

IMG_2098For this week’s Travel Tuesday Post I’ve come up with ANOTHER 10 things to do in Vancouver- because the first 10 just weren’t enough! Sit back, relax, scroll down and prepare to get excited all over again about the many things there are to do in Vancouver. Here is 10 Vantastic Things to in Vancouver…Part two!

1.) STANLEY PARK

Have a picnic, take a walk or a bike ride, go for high tea, swim or horse ride in one of the world’s largest and most popular urban parks. Name it and you can do it it in this relaxing nature retreat that showcases Vancouver’s stunning scenery in the heart of the city.

2.) KITS POOL

My absolute favourite pool in the city and the only saltwater pool in Vancouver! Great for families and friends with stunning views of the adjacent Kitsilano beach.

3.) VANCOUVER AQUARIUM

Catch a dolphin or whale feeding show, watch the adorable otters play, and marvel at the grace and beauty of the Beluga Whales. A family friendly day or perfect for a fun date. Also- the location for my high school prom!

4) FARMERS MARKET

Vancouverites are known to be healthy eaters so what better way to try some fresh local food than to check out one of the various Farmer’s Markets that occur around town. Kitilano, Kerrisdale, Main Street, and Granville Island are just a few places to purchase some of these healthy and delicious delights.

5.) CRAFT BEER MARKET

Canadians are big beer drinkers- fact. And to celebrate that fact Vancouver has a new Craft Beer Market opening up this summer! Located on 1st avenue ( right near the below mentioned patio) it hosts an array of local craft beers and food. Another great place is The Granville Island Brewery where they brew their own unique  (and delicious!) flavours and allow you to buy taste testing samples.

6.) SIT ON A PATIO

The Vancouver equivalent of a beer garden. Not exactly sure why we call them patios as opposed to beer gardens (when they are pretty much the same thing) but it sure does sound classier doesn’t it!? Check out 4th Avenue, Main Street or Downtown to find some great places. One of my Favourites? The Tap and Barrel in the heart of the Olympic Village.

7.) HASTINGS RACE TRACK

Grab your wallet and start running! Just kidding…It is quite normal for attendees to bet $2 on a horse- thus guaranteeing minor potential losses! A super fun day out complete with lunch and beers. Grab a table or stand by the racetrack and jump around with excitement as your winner rounds the corner…hopefully.

8.) VAN DUSEN GARDENS

A perfect destination for a calm, relaxing and scent filled afternoon! Bring your camera and walking shoes and enjoy the beautifully well kept gardens. Have lunch or high tea in the Shaughnessy Restaurant and find your way through an Elizabethan Maze!

9.) YALETOWN/GASTOWN

Two great neighborhoods in Vancouver that you definitely cannot miss. Check out the classic steam clock in Gastown and visit the chintzy stores and great restaurants in Yaletown. Ps- The nightlife is pretty sweet too!

10.) WHALE WATCHING

Your in Canada! Go see some whales! Vancouver has some great spots for purchasing a Whale Watching tour and sighting is usually guaranteed. Head to Granville island or Waterfront station to purchase your ticket and get ready to (hopefully) see some beautiful creatures from the deep. And don’t be alarmed- the Killer Whales are actually quite gentle!

I hope you enjoyed this Travel Tuesday’s post a well as last weeks post- 10 Vantastic Things to do this summer– and that you are no longer at a loss for things to do in Vancouver! Now step away from your computer and head out to enjoy this fantastic city.

  1. I did the Vancouver Half Marathon in May this year, and that took us through Stanley Park – park of me was just grateful to be amongst the shade of the big old trees, but I was so in love with the all the green space within Vancouver! And summer wouldn’t be complete without drinks on a patio!

  2. Completely agree Kate:) Where is your favourite patio in Vancouver?
